Gavin Benson, EIT Designated LEED® APFARGO, ND - April 17, 2008 - Gavin Benson, EIT, Mechanical Engineer, has been designated a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED® AP) by the U.S. Green Building Council. The USGBC is a non-profit organization that is committed to advancing the design of high-performance sustainable buildings; including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials & resources selection, and indoor environmental quality.
Mr. Benson has been with Lightowler Johnson Associates Inc. for four (4) years. The primary focus of his work has been the design of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing and utility systems for various types of buildings. He earned his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from North Dakota State University in 2004 and subsequently passed the Fundamental of Engineering exam. Lightowler Johnson Associates Selected as Architect and Engineer for Large Biodiesel Project
FARGO, ND – February 12, 2007 –Lightowler Johnson Associates, Inc, (LJA) has been awarded the architecture and engineering contract for a new $72 million combination soybean oil extraction and biodiesel facility in Eve, Missouri. The contract was awarded by Prairie Pride Inc. and A-lert Construction, who will serve as the contractor on this design-build project.
The facility will process approximately 21 million bushels of soybeans into soybean meal and soy oils annually. The oil will then be refined into approximately 30 million gallons of ASTM D6751 biodiesel. The Prairie Pride facility will be 100% farmer owned and is the first plant with more than 1,000 investors, who raised $36 million for the project. Construction has begun on the facility and it is expected be producing biodiesel by mid July.
Lightowler Johnson Associates has designed facilities of this type in the past including the $32 million soybean processing facility for South Dakota Soybean Processors (SDSP) in Volga, SD and the 2003 $62 million soybean processing facility in Brewster, MN for the Minnesota Soybean Processors (MNSP). It was during these projects that they met Rodney Christianson, CEO of South Dakota Soybean Processors. South Dakota Soybean Processors are providing construction management, marketing and operational management for the new Prairie Pride facility.
